On the afternoon of April 18, delegates to the 10th National Party Congress focused on discussing documents related to the implementation of the 9th Party Congress resolutions, results of 20-year renovation, orientations and targets for national development in the 2006-2010 period.

They also touched upon issues pertaining to economic sectors, national industrialisation and modernisation, education and training, national defence and security, external relations, international integration, Party building and the great national unity bloc.

Most delegates said that the achievements recorded in the past 20 years of implementing the Doi Moi (Renewal) process are of great significance as they serve as a prerequisite for national development in the next five years. This congress shows the entire Party and people’s great determination to bring Vietnam out of the underdeveloped status.

During discussions, delegates from southern Dong Nai province mentioned three key issues associated with infrastructure development, agricultural restructuring and development of education and human resources.

Delegates from the northern Hung Yen province referred to two major issues - socio-economic development in the 2006-2010 period and Party building work.

Party building work must be improved to increase the leadership capacity and combative strength of the Party. However, this depends on each Party member’s effort. Building a transparent and strong Party requires regular implementation of the criticism and self-criticism campaign.

Delegates from southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province said several contents of the Party Documents should be more specific. Anti-corruption work should have specific targets to achieve. For example, serious corruption from cases should be solved in the first place. Regarding agriculture and rural development, farmers’ ability and creativity should be promoted. In fact, many farmers have created machines to serve production on their own fields.

On April 19, delegates will continue to discuss the related documents and regulations on the election to the 10^th Party Central Committee.
