Full-moon festival toys recall the old days

Star-shaped lanterns, paper masks, tin-made ships, lion heads and paper doctors are traditional toys still sold in Hanoi on the occasion of the Full-Moon Festival.


Den keo quan (lantern) often appears on the occasion of full-moon festival. When the candle inside is burnt, the heat from the flame will warm up the air and cause the lantern to spin, laminating the images on the lantern. A lantern is priced about VND50,000-VND100,000.
Lion heads are made of rattan and bamboo frame, covered  by paper. A big lion head is priced from VND1.5 to VND3 million
The full-moon festival feast with a paper doctor (VND50,000-VND150,000), a stick man, a fruit tray, young rice and a small lion head (VND30,000 - VND50.000). 

A boat made of tin used to be a popular toy of the old time. 

This toy is priced VND150,000-VND300,000. 

A stuffed swan priced at VND50,000. 

This used to be very popular during the Full Moon Festival.

Paper masks are sold for VND25,000-VND30,000. In addition to the Vietnamese familiar characters,  there are also marks of Chinese or foreign characters.
Frog drums are sold for VND30,000 - VND50.000.  
Small star-shaped lanterns are sold for VND10,000-VND20,000. You can buy these on Hang Ma street or in local neighborhoods.
