Work to restore ancient observatory in Hue commences

The Hue Monuments Conservation Centre coordinated with the Vietnam Institute for Building Science and Technology (VIBST) on March 1 began the restoration of an observatory vestige at Hue ancient capital complex.

The US$500,000 project, expected to be completed in July, is part of a programme to recover relics in Hue Imperial Citadel that commenced in June, 2011.

The ancient observatory, called Dong Khuyet Dai, located in the East of the Citadel. It was one of four observatories that served as an observation and defence post during the Nguyen Dynasty. However, the vestige deteriorated over time.
