Investigators asked to uncover economic, corruption cases

Investigator should focus on bringing into light major economic and corruption cases that have caught public concerns, President Tran Dai Quang said.

President Tran Dai Quang speaks at the working session
He made the request at a working session with the investigation agencies under the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of National Defence and the Supreme People’s Court in Hanoi on November 10.

President Quang, who is also head of the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reform, alerted the investigators that economic and corruption criminals are resorting to flee to other countries which have not yet signed justice assistance agreements with Vietnam.

“The investigation agencies need to deploy preventive measures to manage those being investigated to deter them from fleeing the country,” he said.

He, however, raised the fact that Vietnam’s legal documents are incompatible with that of several foreign countries, thus causing difficulties in judicial assistance and criminal extradition.

The leader also underlined the peaceful evolution scheme of hostile forces, plus the symptoms of “ self - evolution ” and “self-transformation.”

Given this, he urged the investigation agencies to effectively materialise guidelines and policies regarding the judicial sector issued by the Party and State.

He said the agencies need to improve the competence of investigators and promote the law-abiding spirit in a bid to ensure social order, serving national socio-economic development as well as the country’s international integration.

At the same time, the agencies should expand their international cooperation in investigating and handling crimes, especially organised, cross-border, drug, economic, corruption and high-tech crimes, terrorists and human traffickers, he noted.

More measures should be taken to minimise unjust cases and ensure compensations for victims, the President said, calling on the agencies to focus on researching and building the draft law adjusting and supplementing a number of articles of the 2015 Criminal Law and relevant bills.

The Party, State and people always pay special attention to building the judicial sector, including investigation agencies, he affirmed.
