An Giang expands material tra fish farming area

The Mekong Delta province of An Giang has expanded breading areas for material tra fish (pangasius) due to increasing export demand since the start of the year, said Chief of the Office of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Dac Mau.

According to the province’s statistics office, as of mid-March 2018, prices of material tra fish remained high. The prices of young tra fish for breeding also rose due to increasing breeding demand and are at VND60,000-70,000 per kg.

An Giang’s farming area for tra fish harvested in the first three months of the year was estimated at 239ha, an increase of 3.6% year-on-year while output hit 73,000 tonnes, up 3.36% against the previous year’s correspondent period.

The province’s farming area for tra fish currently totals 770ha, up nearly 3% compared to one year ago.

The An Giang Tra Fish Association (AFA) aims to have 130 households breeding tra fish on a total 160ha, along with increasing the production of tra fish farms in Chau Phu and Phu Tan districts and Tan Chau township.
