ASEAN remains key market for Vietnamese exports

VOV.VN - ASEAN still represents a crucial market for the nation, with export revenue reaching US$10.85 billion during the initial four months of the year, duly accounting for 10% of the country’s total.

In the January to April period, Vietnamese exports to ASEAN member states saw an annual drop of 4.7%, a low level compared to the country’s 13% fall of overall export revenue during the reviewed period.

Most notably, among the 24 export markets with turnover of exceeding US$1 billion, six are ASEAN members.

Meanwhile, imports from ASEAN member states during the opening four months of the year stood at US$13.360 billion, duly accounting for 13.4% of the country’s total imports, down 17.6% on-year, thereby leading to a trade deficit of US$2.51 billion, a decline of 48% compared to the same period from last year.

Thailand was the nation’s largest market among ASEAN members, with two-way trade reaching US$6.25 billion.

Vietnamese products with export revenue  of over US$10 million included telephones and accessories; machineries, equipment and spare parts; transport vehicles; crude oil; computers and electronics.

Thailand was trailed by the Philippines with US$1.73 billion, up 7% on-year, followed by Indonesia, Cambodia, and Malaysia.
