Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance (MoF), in coordination with the European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham), held a seminar on customs and tariff policies with European businesses in Hanoi on October 29.

At the event, businesses made many proposals to the MoF about tariff policies with foreign contractors, time-limits regarding income tax returns, and deducting expenses for advertisement, sales promotion, and insurance costs for staff.

Thomas Grunzke, a representative of EuroCham, said the Chamber applauded the dropping of tariffs on cargo transport services. He also said that the tariffs on other services relating to international transport should be dropped.

Deputy Minister of Finance, Do Hoang Anh Tuan, said recently that Vietnam has ameded its tariff policies to create favourable conditions for businesses operating in Vietnam in conformity with international regulations.

Now Vietnam has a system of tariff agreements which it has signed with 50 countries all over the world, he noted.

Representative of the MoF also answered directly some questions concerning difficulties with tariff and customs policies. With proposals made by businesses, the MoF promised to do more researches and make amendments in accordance with business operations in the future.
