Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked relevant ministries and agencies to continue making detailed plans to ensure absolute safety for activities under the APEC framework, particularly social order and security at the National Conference Centre where the main activities of the conference will take place.

PM Dung gave this instruction at a meeting with the APEC security sub-committee in Hanoi on November 6. Present at the meeting were leaders from the Ministries of Public Security and Defence, Chairman of the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee and secretaries from Hanoi’s neighbouring provinces.

PM Dung emphasised that ensuring security is one of three important factors in the successful organisation of the14th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting. The meeting is a major external activity of the country. If the meeting is organised successfully, Vietnam’s position and prestige will be enhanced in the international arena.

The PM also praised the efforts made by the APEC security sub-committee, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Defence and Hanoi capital city in ensuring security for the conference. “International friends have highlighted Vietnam’s political stability but we should not be subjective”, he said. He also asked these ministries, the sub-committee and Hanoi police to continue making detailed plans to ensure absolute safety for activities under the framework of the meeting. He also asked the APEC security sub-committee to pay special attention to ensuring social order and security at the National Conference Centre where the main activities of the conference will take place.

The PM instructed other agencies to strengthen control over food hygiene and safety for the conference. Hanoi should devise measures to solve traffic jams on the roads to the conference’s venue. The PM also asked relevant authorities to severely punish those who hold up traffic.
