Organisers have invited a team each from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Express club of Uganda, plus Vicem Haiphong.
The Czech team looks attractive with EURO 1996 finalists Patrick Berger and Vladimir Smicer, who used to play for Liverpool, and other noted players such as goalie Pert Kouba, midfielders Vaclak Nemencek, Jiri Nemec, Pavel Notvotny and Pavel Kuka, and defenders Martin Kotulek, Miroslav Kadlec and Karel Rada.
Players from the Czech under-21 team who entered the Denmark’s European championship’s semi-finals in June will also participate.
The Slovakian side will introduce veterans who used to play for Premiership’s Middlebrough and their local clubs of Slavia Praha and Croatian Hajduk Split.
Express FC is one of the most famous clubs in Uganda. They have won the national league five times and 10 national cups.
Host Vicem Haiphong, who rank 12th after the V-League finished on August 21, hope to set up a relationship through the tournament so they can recruit players to strengthen their team for the next season.
Teams will play in a round-robin format. The winners will pocket US$20,000, while the runners-up will get US$10,000 and US$5,000, respectively.
