VNAT Deputy General Director Pham Tu said tourism leaders from all APEC member economies will discuss a wide range of issues such as safety and security for tourists, tourism policies, infrastructure upgrade, travelling conditions, exchange of tourism information, environmental protection and preservation of cultural features for sustainable development of tourism. The meeting is expected to approve the Hoi An Declaration on Strengthening APEC Tourism Cooperation.
Alongside the meeting, the 29th APEC Tourism Working Group will also meet in Hoi An to propose and implement tourism cooperation projects, promote tourism cooperation among APEC members and develop tourism into a key economic sector of the region.
Hoi An has recovered from Typhoon Xangsane and is ready to welcome APEC meetings, said Nguyen Su, Secretary of the Hoi An town Party Committee.
Mr Su said although the typhoon slammed into the central coast on October 1, Hoi An has confirmed that the meeting’s facilities remain in tact.
Hoi An has 74 hotels and resorts, and two of its seven damaged hotels and resorts in Cua Dai area have resumed operation after the typhoon.
