Vietnamese grandmaster Le Quang Liem has entered the world’s top 25 male players, according to the World Chess Federation (FIDE).

This is attributed to Liem’s achievements at the 2011 World Chess Cup, which is taking place in Russia.

He has qualified for the championships’ third round, which he failed to take berth to the second round in the two previous events.

During his third round, Liem (ELO 2715) made two draws in both first-leg and second-leg games with Cuban rival Batista Lazaro (ELO 2673). The two players will enter a blitz to get an entrance ticket to the next round of the champs.
