Vietnamese naval ship joins Exercise Kakadu in Australia for first time

This morning sees Ship 18, with a working delegation of the Vietnam People’s Navy on board, depart the military port of Brigade 171 for the northern Australian port of Darwin to attend Exercise Kakadu 2024.

According to the schedule, the Exercise Kakadu is one of the military diplomacy activities being carried out by the Vietnam People's Navy in Australia.

This also marks the first time that the Vietnam People’s Navy has participated in an exercise with other navies in Australia, after both countries lifted their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The ship begins its journey to the port of Darwin in northern Australia.

According to details given by the organising board, so far a total of 23 countries have registered to join Exercise Kakadu, including 16 ships and five aircraft.

The largest Australian maritime exercise is scheduled to take place from September 8 to September 19.
