Nearly 800 athletes from Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, Kien Giang, Hau Giang and Tra Vinh provinces are attending the two-day event, which is co-organised by the General Department for Sports and Physical Training and the Hau Giang provincial Department for Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The competition will consist of 800m and 1,200m races for men and 600m and 1,000m races for women, all of which will be contested in a round robin format.

The event is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 66^th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2).

The General Department for Sports and Physical Training has decided to add ngo boat racing to the list of national sports events held in the Mekong Delta region.
