The National Cycling Tournament opened in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on October 17.

This year’s tournament has attracted 35 female and 59 male racers who will compete for 12 sets of medals.

After the opening ceremony, 26 female cyclists took part in a race of 10 laps around Vung Tau city, an estimated 30km. Racer Phan Thi Lieu won the first gold medal earning 17 points, while silver and bronze medals went to Phuong Phi and Thuy Lien, each scoring 11 points.

In the men’s event, 37 cyclists rode 16 laps around the city, a total of 48km. Bui Minh Thuy from the Vinh Long team bagged the first gold medal with 30 points. Trinh Duc Tam won silver for 20 points and Tran Van Quyen took bronze, earning 18 points.

The tournament will last until October 22.
