Party leader Nong Duc Manh, State President Nguyen Minh Triet and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received and held talks with Brunei's Sultan, RoK President, Australian Prime Minister, New Zealand Prime Minister, Canadian Prime Minister in Hanoi on November 17.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nong Duc Manh received the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, in Hanoi on November 17.
The Sultan, who is on a visit to Vietnam to attend the 14th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, affirmed Brunei's policy on continuing to enhance friendly relations and cooperation with Vietnam.
The Sultan spoke highly of the achievements made by Vietnam over the past years, particularly the country's efforts in hosting the 14th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. He wished the meeting a success to contribute to improving Vietnam's position in the international arena.
Sultan Bolkiah congratulated Vietnam on its accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and expressed his belief that the country will make further progress in economic renovation and national construction.
For his part, Party General Secretary Manh affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy on further intensifying the cooperative ties between the two countries in the interest of the two peoples, as well as for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large.
The Party leader extended his congratulations on the progress made by the Brunei people during the country's national construction process.
Brunei continues to support Vietnam’s accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and its bid for a non-permanent membership at the United Nations Security Council, affirmed the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
The Sultan made the statement at a reception given by President Nguyen Minh Triet at the Presidential Palace on the afternoon of Nov. 17.
Sultan Bolkiah congratulated Vietnam on winning confidence in hosting the APEC 2006 Year, particularly the 14th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM - 14).
The Sultan expressed his belief in the success of the AELM - 14 chaired by President Nguyen Minh Triet.
Sultan Bolkiah said he was deeply impressed by Vietnam's fast development over recent years and expressed his hope to further promote friendly and cooperative relations with Vietnam both bilaterally and multilaterally.
President Triet said he was delighted at the development of Vietnam-Brunei relations, adding that both countries have supported each other within the framework of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as at many regional and international forums.
The Vietnamese President spoke highly of the import of Vietnamese rice by Brunei and its welcome of Vietnamese guest workers.
He said he hopes that Vietnam and Brunei will further promote cooperation in the above-said fields while expanding their bilateral ties in petroleum, tourism and other fields.
On this occasion, Sultan Bolkiah invited President Triet to pay an official friendship visit to Brunei and the latter accepted the invitation with pleasure. The two foreign ministries will arrange the visit at a convenient time.
State President meets with RoK President

During talks in Hanoi on November 17, State President Nguyen Minh Triet and the Republic of Korea (RoK) President Roh Moo Hyun expressed their delight at the fine and effective development of Vietnam-RoK relations in many fields, especially in the field of economic cooperation over the past 14 years.
State President Nguyen Minh Triet welcomed the Republic of Korea (RoK) President Roh Moo Hyun to Vietnam to attend the 14th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM).
The State President also praised the huge achievements of the RoK Government and people in socio-economic development, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the Asia-Pacific region and the world.
The RoK President said he was very happy to visit Vietnam and attend the AELM and was greatly impressed by Vietnam’s socio-economic development. He also congratulated Vietnam on its achievements in the renewal process and on becoming a member of the WTO.
Both sides expressed their delight at the fine and effective development of Vietnam-RoK relations in many fields, especially in economic cooperation over the past 14 years. The two leaders agreed that they will continue to do their best to further develop the “Comprehensive Partnership in the 21st century” between the two countries.
The RoK President confirmed that the RoK Government will continue to contribute to socio-economic development in Vietnam by providing official development aids and the Economic Development Co-operation Fund (EDCF)’s preferential loans.
The two sides affirmed continued cooperation in international and regional forums like ASEAN+3, ASEAN+1, ASEM, for the benefits of both countries and for peace, cooperation and development in the Asia-Pacific region and the world.
Mr Triet supported peaceful solutions for resolving issues relating to the Korean Peninsula and wished to resume six-party talks.
The RoK President invited State President Nguyen Minh Triet to visit the RoK in the future and Mr Triet accepted the invitation with pleasure.
After the talks, they witnessed the signing ceremony of a project to build a hospital in central Quang Nam province with RoK non-refundable aid. |
Australia - an important partner for Vietnam: State President

State President Nguyen Minh Triet received Australian Prime Minister John Howard in Hanoi on November 17, who is on a working visit to Vietnam to attend the 14th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM).
The State President expressed his delight at the fine development of the Vietnam-Australia relations over the past years and affirmed that Vietnam always considers Australia an important partner. He expressed his wish to develop friendly and comprehensive relations with Australia in the framework of bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation. Mr Triet highlighted Australia’s role in promoting cooperation among countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
State President Triet thanked Australia for closely cooperating with and helping Vietnam in organizing the AELM and affirmed that Vietnam will do its best for the success of the meeting.
President Nguyen Minh Triet also praised the Australian government for creating favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community to integrate into Australian society.
Prime Minister John Howard congratulated Vietnam on joining the World Trade Organisation (WTO), successfully hosting the 14th APEC meeting which has been acclaimed worldwide. He highlighted the Vietnamese community’s contributions to Australia’s socio-economic development and affirmed that the Vietnamese community will help further promote friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.
Prime Minister John Howard said attending the APEC meeting give him a chance to learn experience in organizing the APEC meeting as his country will host the event next year.
President Triet and Prime Minister Howard agreed to further boost bilateral politic dialogues. President Triet expressed his hope that PM Howard will visit Vietnam again to have further discussion on issues of mutual concern.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung receives Canadian PM and Brunei’s Sultan
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah at the Government Office in Hanoi on November 17.
At a reception for the Canadian guest, Mr Dung thanked Canada for supporting Vietnam’s entry to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and providing it with effective ODA funding.
Vietnam wants to promote multi-faceted cooperation with Canada and praises Canadian enterprises’ investment in the country, said Mr Dung.
The Canadian PM highly appreciated Vietnam’s great achievements in socio-economic development in recent times and said that both countries should further boost bilateral cooperation in mineral exploitation, finance and banking which are Canada’s potential areas and are in need in Vietnam.
During the meeting with Brunei’s Sultan H.Bolkiah, Mr Dung said that bilateral relations between Vietnam and Brunei are developing finely within ASEAN and at international forums. The Vietnamese government wants to enhance all-round cooperation with Brunei, particularly in oil and gas exploitation and labour.
The Vietnamese government leader also highly praised Royal Brunei Airline for opening an air route to HCM City, describing it as a contribution to promoting economic cooperation and tourist exchanges between the two countries.
The Brunei Sultan expressed his belief that Vietnam will make the APEC 2006 a great success. He invited PM Nguyen Tan Dung to visit Brunei and his invitation was accepted with pleasure.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung expressed his pleasure at the development of Vietnam-New Zealand traditional relations in all areas, particularly investment and trade, while receiving his New Zealand counterpart Helen Clark in Hanoi on November 17.
PM Dung thanked New Zealand for its valuable assistance to Vietnam's struggle for national liberation and reunification, endeavour to join accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and its increasing effective official development assistance to Vietnam.
He proposed that the New Zealand government continue creating favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community in New Zealand, which he believes, will help promote cooperative and friendly relations between the two countries.
PM Helen Clark said she hopes to promote cooperation with Vietnam in culture and education and training.
