Preparations for the 2006 APEC Week in Hanoi from November 12-19 must be made in a way that will help promote Vietnam's image and prestige in the international arena, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

Mr Dung told a meeting in Hanoi on September 23 to prepare for the event that the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting should be organised in a respectful, friendly, safe and thrifty manner.
The summit must promote a good image of Vietnam and its people, he said.

After hearing reports on preparations for the summit drafted by the 2006 APEC Secretariat and subcommittees for APEC 2006, PM Dung asked all agencies to make thorough preparations for rehearsals to ensure the success of the event.

Deputy PM Pham Gia Khiem, Head of the National Steering Committee for APEC 2006 and former deputy PM Vu Khoan, PM's special envoy for APEC also attended the meeting.
