He lauded the coal sector’s profitable operation despite economic difficulties last year, saying the sector met its production targets and generated steady jobs for its employees.
He asked the sector to increase the pace of capital construction projects, improve technology, update management skills, and pay special attention to labour safety.
He recalled the methanol explosion at a Kha Cham coal mine last December that killed 10 miners and injured 19 others and said that the sector should learn from the accident to better protect the workers.
Every production unit must place a high priority on labour safety, said Mr Hai.
The deputy PM asked the sector to upgrade production lines and safety equipment to raise operational efficiency and safeguard the lives of its workers.
