Delegates will examine a summary report on the 1991 Political Programme on national construction during the transitional period to socialism in Vietnam, and another report reviewing the implementation of the 10-year socio-economic development strategy for the 2001-2010 period. They will also discuss preparations for Party congresses at grassroots level and the establishment of sub-committees for the National Party Congress.

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh asked delegates to look at the achievements, make an in-depth analysis of weaknesses and draw lessons from implementing the Programme over the past two decades to finalise the Programme and documents to be presented at the upcoming 11^th National Party Congress.

He noted that the 11^th Party Congress is to review the implementation of the 10-year strategy for national socio-economic development adopted at the 9^th Party Congress and decide on another development strategy for the next 10 years.

This is an important tasks which requires the entire Party to have a ‘strategic vision’ in both the review and decision making processes, said Mr Manh.

He asked delegates to discuss and give opinions on reports to draw up a comprehensive strategy for submission to the Party Congress, taking into account the country’s potential, people’s creativity and global developments.

The conference will last through to July 5.
