Party leader To Lam encourages Vietnam – Indonesia parliamentary cooperation
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam encouraged closer parliamentary cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia during his meeting with Puan Maharani, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Indonesia, as part of his ongoing state visit to the island state, in Jakarta on March 11.
To Lam lauded the results of cooperation between the Indonesian House of Representatives and the Vietnamese National Assembly over the years, and suggested that both parliaments make greater contributions to fostering the long-standing friendship, multi-faceted cooperation, and the newly-established Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia.
Maharani for her part commended the recent upgrade of the new partnership bilateral framework between the two countries, affirming that Indonesia highly values and is committed to maintaining and continuously strengthening friendly and multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam.
The Indonesian House of Representatives fully supports the government in enhancing relations with Vietnam, said the House Speaker.
She emphasized the importance of promoting people-to-people exchanges as a foundation for long-term friendship and encouraged stronger ties between Indonesian political parties and the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Both leaders agreed that Vietnam and Indonesia play crucial roles within ASEAN and are reliable partners that share many common interests and perspectives. They underlined the need to further expand cooperation through various channels to strengthen the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
They vowed to boost economic and trade cooperation, aiming to raise two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Indonesia to US$18 billion by 2028.
They also concurred on the need to enhance information exchange, closely coordinate, and support each other at regional and international parliamentary forums.
On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam conveyed greetings and an invitation from Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man for Speaker Puan Maharani to visit Vietnam to further parliamentary cooperation.
The Indonesian House Speaker gladly accepted the invitation.
