Vietnam, Argentina hold high-level parliamentary talks

VOV.VN - President of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies Cecilia Moreau held talks with Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Vuong Dinh Hue who is on an official visit to Argentina, in Buenos Aires, on April 24 (local time).

Moreau said despite the despite the geographical distance, the two countries have well maintained their political, economic, cultural, parliamentary relations, as well as people-to-people exchanges. She expressed her belief the visit will give a strong impetus to deepening the Vietnam-Argentina Comprehensive Partnership and the parliamentary relations of the two countries both bilaterally and multilaterally. .

Hue affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to developing relations with Argentina, one of Vietnam’s leading partners in Latin America. He expressed his wish that the two countries will continue to strengthen exchanges and coordination in order to further promote their traditional friendship and cooperation.

Bot host and guest were delighted at the positive development of the Vietnam-Argentina Comprehensive Partnership in many areas, from politics - diplomacy to economy, trade, education, agriculture and justice, through maintaining the exchange of delegations and bringing into full play cooperation mechanisms including the inter-governmental committee and political consultations.

Two-way trade turnover between the two countries have grown considerably, reaching more than US$4.8 billion last year. Argentina is currently Vietnam’s third largest trading partner in Latin America, and Vietnam is Argentina’s fifth largest export markets in Asia.

The two sides agreed to increase the exchange of reciprocal visits and well coordinate in organizing activities in celebration of 50 years of bilateral diplomacy this year. They agreed to promote cooperation in agriculture, economy - trade, science - technology, education, tourism, sports, and culture, and at the same time, expand cooperation to other fields such as high-tech industry, digital transformation, innovation, climate change response, and sustainable growth, as well as cooperation between localities.

Hue requested that Argentina lobby other members of the South American Common Market (MERCOSUR) to kick-start negotiations of a free trade agreement with Vietnam, and at the same time create conditions for Vietnamese goods to enter its market.

The two sides noted that the two legislatures should work closely to facilitate the operation of the two business communities, including opening the market for strong agricultural products of Vietnam and Argentina.

They vowed to support their businesses to access each other’s markets to carry out business and investment activities, and at the same time, promote the parliamentary role in forming a favourable legal corridor to facilitate the implementation of bilateral cooperation activities in a stable and long-term manner.

The two parliamentary leaders highly appreciated the fruitful cooperation between the two legislatures through regular exchanges of delegations and support for each side’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

They agreed to continue strengthening cooperation between the two legislatures to share experiences in legislation, supervision and decision making of important national issues.

They underscored the need to increase bilateral coordination at multilateral forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and support each other’s positions on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Hue expected to receive an Argentine parliament delegation to the 9th Global Young Parliamentarians Conference to be hosted by the National Assembly of Vietnam in September 2023.

He also cordially invited President of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies Cecilia Moreau to visit Vietnam soon.

After the talks, Hue and Moreau signed a cooperation agreement between the two legislatures.
