In an interview granted to the media, Mr Trong said that the trip was successful, helping to promote the strategic partnership with Russia and broaden the traditional friendship and long-term, mutually beneficial and multifaceted cooperation with the Czech Republic and Belarus.

Leaders of these countries praised Vietnam’s Doi Moi (Renewal) achievements and its increasing role and position in the region and the world. More importantly, the National Assembly signed cooperative agreements with the legislative bodies of the three countries. The signing described by the legislators as a driving force behind the development of their relations with Vietnam.  

They agreed to increase legislative cooperation, contributing to the common development of their countries’ relations in politics, economics, trade, investment, science-technology, the environment, education, culture, social affairs and tourism.

They underlined the need to better perform its overseeing role in implementing signed agreements.

“Vietnam has signed many agreements and specific cooperation programmes with these countries, but the implementation of these documents is slow going. Therefore, the parliaments of each country should increase their oversight role, including overseeing the implementation of cooperation programmes between each other’s legislative bodies,” said Mr Trong.

He said that the concerned parties also agreed to increase exchange of visits to share experiences in legislation and operations. The legislative bodies of the European countries even offered training to the Vietnam National Assembly’s deputies, helping to improve their capacity.

Mr Trong said that he had the chance to meet with overseas Vietnamese communities in Russia, the Czech Republic and Belarus to inquire into their living conditions in the context of the global economic crisis.

He said he was happy to see that Vietnamese nationals unite and assist each other to integrate into their resident countries. Meanwhile, many Vietnamese showed their keen interest in their native country’s development and wanted to exert their efforts to contribute to the homeland.
