For the first time Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung chaired an online Cabinet meeting in Hanoi on March 30, assessing the country’s socio-economic development in March.

The meeting was networked to the offices of 63 provincial and municipal People’s Committees.

Cabinet ministers used their PCs to present their reports and discuss issues raised at the meeting. All the materials, including reports from ministries, agencies, provinces and cities, had been transferred to the Government Office via the Internet for processing and to be stored at a data centre.

By holding the session online, the Government has shown its firm resolve to apply information technology to its operations. Regular online meetings will help save time, cut costs and increase the effectiveness of the governance.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung has issued a directive requesting that all ministries and ministerial-level agencies hold their meetings online.
