The armies of Vietnam and Thailand should increase their joint sea patrols, information exchange, cooperation in crime prevention and personnel training, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

While receiving Thai Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon in Hanoi on July 1, Mr Dung said that cooperation between the two armies has contributed to boosting mutual friendship and relationship between Vietnam and Thailand.

He expressed his pleasure at the continuous development of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, especially in economics, trade, investment, culture, education and training, as well as national defence and security. He wished that both countries would continue to make a greater effort to promote their cooperation in the interests of their people and for peace, stability and development in the region.

He welcomed the results of talks held earlier between the Thai Defence Minister and his Vietnamese counterpart, General Phung Quang Thanh, and proposed that the two armies work closely towards the signing of a cooperation agreement in the future.

Mr Dung said Vietnam is ready to welcome the Thai Prime Minister to visit the country as scheduled.

For his part, Minister Wongsuwon praised Vietnam’s recent achievements and said that during his talks with general Thanh, the two armies had agreed to increase the exchange of visits, joint sea patrols and personnel training.
