State President Nguyen Minh Triet received a delegation from Japan’s International Friendship Exchange Council (FEC) led by Ken Matsuzawa, vice president of the Aoyama Gakuin Educational Foundation, in Hanoi on March 21.

Mr Triet welcomed Mr Matsuzawa’s visit and affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to developing ties of friendship and cooperation with Japan.

The President appreciated Japan’s recent decision to resume official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam, which he said satisfies the two countries’ desire to intensify their multifaceted cooperation for mutual benefit.

After affirming that education and training is Vietnam’s top policy, Mr Triet expressed hopes that with its advanced education, Japan would share its experience with Vietnam in this area.

He also praised the effective cooperation between Vietnam and the FEC and believed that the FEC would continue to provide assistance to Vietnam, especially in education and training.

Mr Matsuzawa said that the purpose of his visit is to explore Vietnam’s education system and that the FEC wants to make further contributions to the country’s development.

The FEC will try its best to help promote Japan-Vietnam relations, said Mr Matsuzawa.
