State, NA leaders host Lao Prime Minister

VOV.VN - President Tran Dai Quang and National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on October 3 gave separate receptions to the visiting Lao Prime Minister, Thongloun Sisoulith in Hanoi.

Meeting with the Lao government leader, President Quang said Vietnam whole-heartedly supports the cause of national reform, defence and construction of Laos, always treasures and gives top priority to preserving and developing the Vietnam-Laos special solidarity. 

The State leader congratulated Laos on its tremendous achievements in both interior and external affairs, displaying his belief that under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and State, the Lao people will continue building their country into a more prosperous nation.

He described Lao leader’s visit as a contribution to further promoting the Vietnam-Laos special solidarity, especially when the two countries are celebrating the 55th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties and 40 years of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

President Quang congratulated the Lao PM for being honoured with the Gold Star Order, the highest decoration of the Vietnamese State.

He suggested that leaders should continue working closely in directing the organization of effective and practical celebrations in 2017. He also took the occasion to invite Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith to visit Vietnam and attend a ceremony to conclude the Vietnam-Laos, Laos-Vietnam Friendship Year 2017.

The Vietnamese State leader said that as the host of the APEC Year 2017, Vietnam invites Lao Party General Secretary and President Vorachith to attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Danang in November.

PM Sisoulith, in turn said that Lao Party General Secretary and President Vorachith will visit Vietnam in December to attend the ceremony concluding the Vietnam-Laos, Laos-Vietnam Friendship Year 2017 and take part in the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in November.

Receiving the Lao PM the same day, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has proposed the legislative bodies of Vietnam and Laos take specific measures to reinforce political relations and increase the efficiency of cooperation in multiple areas.

Ngan congratulated the Lao people and Party on their major achievements over the past time, which she said, have elevated Laos' international profile.

She underlined the need for the two law-making bodies to work closely with relevant agencies to enhance the supervision over joint programmes and projects, and the exchange of experience and expertise in law making and the settlement of voters’ concerns.

PM Thongloun Sisoulith for his part agreed that the two countries have organized successfully numerous activities celebrating the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year 2017 and the two legislatures have exchanged law making expertise.
