Vietnam and Russia will continue to promote all-round cooperation, especially in economics, energy, machinery manufacturing, mechanical engineering, infrastructure construction and education in line with their fine political ties.

The agreement was reached during talks in Hanoi on July 25 between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

They shared the view that bilateral ties have fared well in all fields, including politics, economics, culture, national defence and security. They discussed the possibility of expanding cooperation in other fields such as culture and humanitarianism to lift their strategic partnership to new heights.

They agreed to launch diverse activities in Vietnam and Russia next year to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the two countries’ diplomatic ties and encouraged their media to take an active part in these activities.

Minister Lavrov said that Russia attaches great importance to holding high-level reliable and positive dialogues with Vietnam within bilateral and multilateral cooperation frameworks, noting that their bilateral relationship has stood the test of time and that the two countries hold common views on many regional and international issues.

Both host and guest said that energy cooperation is a top priority in the coming time. Currently, Russia is helping train Vietnamese officials in atomic energy for peaceful purposes.

They witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation between the Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission and the Russia State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM).

Mr Khiem presented the Vietnamese State’s Friendship Order to Minister Lavrov in recognition of his great contributions to developing friendship between Vietnam and Russia.

Minister Lavrov began a two-day visit to Vietnam on July 24.
