Vietnam wants to receive more WB assistance

VOV.VN - Vietnam hopes the World Bank (WB) will continue to help it cope with challenges, especially climate change adaptation, renewable energy development, education, healthcare, and youngsters’ startups.

Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan made the statement at a July 1 reception for former WB Country Director Victoria Kwakwa, who is serving as new Regional Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific.

The VFF leader congratulated Victoria Kwakwa on her new post and hailed her great contributions during her working term in Vietnam, especially in the fields of policy consulting, financial support, education-training, agriculture, production and exports, thus improving local living standards.

Nhan also expressed his delight at the comprehensive and pragmatic cooperation between Vietnam and the WB, noting that Vietnam places high importance to the effective use of loans from the international community, especially the World Bank (WB), for socio-economic development and poverty reduction efforts.

For her part, Victoria Kwakwa thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and people for supporting the WB programmes and applauded the achievements Vietnam recorded over the past years, particularly macroeconomic stabilisation, climate change resilience, social welfares policy and private economic development.

The guest said she hopes Vietnam will obtain even greater achievements in these above mentioned areas in the time ahead.
