The Vietnamese government will create the best possible conditions for Australian businesses to boost trade and investment cooperation with their Vietnamese partners, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

While receiving a delegation of Australian businesses in Hanoi on April 15, Mr Dung noted that the relationship between the two countries is developing well and Vietnam will work closely with Australia to promote their multifaceted cooperation.

Australia is one of Vietnam’s biggest investors and trade partners and the two countries still have great potential and prospects for future cooperation, said Mr Dung

Richard Woolcott, Director of the Asia Society AustralAsia Centre, briefed Mr Dung on the profiles of the businesses in the delegation, saying they are all leading firms in finance, banking, real estate, education and steel production.

He expressed his hope that Vietnam would promptly overcome the negative impact of the global economic crisis thanks to its policies which have taken effect.

Australian businesses said they want to expand cooperation with Vietnamese partners.

A representative of ANZ bank welcomed the Vietnamese government’s decision to license foreign banks to establish wholly-foreign invested branches in Vietnam and said that ANZ is planning to open 6 more branches in the country.
