Vietnam’s U23 football team trounced Brunei 8-0 on November 12, gaining entrance to the semi-finals of the ongoing 26th SEA Games in Indonesia.

The team ended the first half with six goals, including a hat trick by striker Van Quyet, who bagged three goals in the first, 12th and 14th minutes. Thanh Luong, Van Thang and Van Binh also kicked the ball into their rival’s net in the match's 16th, 19th and 30th minutes.

Despite missing a number of chances to score, the Vietnamese players entered the second half with an enormous lead.

In the 59th minute, Hoang Thien raised his team's score to 7-0 after receiving a transfer in the penalty area. Thirteen minutes later, Dinh Tung made another goal for Vietnam in a narrow corner with his left leg.

Under the leadership of German coach Falko Goetz, the Vietnamese squad ended the match against Brunei with an 8-0 score, taking the lead in Group B with 10 points after three wins and one draw.

Vietnam will have five days off to rest before taking on Laos.
