Temperatures are forecast to drop by 8 degrees Celsius on average when a strong cold spell will affect the northern region on December 1, according to hydro-meteorological experts.
The cold pattern, the strongest since winter 2011, is moving toward Vietnam from the north and is expected to hit north-eastern provinces early in the morning, say experts.
It will cause temperatures to fall to below 10oC in mountain areas and 20oC in the northern delta.
People in Hanoi will feel chill at around 07.00 – 08.00 am and temperatures will plummet to 20-22oC in the daytime and then to 14-15oC at night.
The cold spell will bring light rains to the northern region and strong winds to the Bac Bo (Tonkin) Gulf and the East Sea.
The cold weather will last until the end of the week.
