Haiphong’s giant flyover opens to traffic

A massive overfly spanning the major Nguyen Binh Khiem – Le Hong Phong intersection in the northern city of Haiphong was put into operation on January 25.

With total investment amounting to nearly VND310 billion (US$13.7 million), the facility is 267.6m long and 16m wide, with four traffic lanes.

The overfly, whose lifespan is designed to reach 100 years, allows vehicles to travel at 60km/h.

The transport infrastructure project was completed after a record construction time of seven months.

Considered one of the most heavily congested spots in Haiphong, the Nguyen Binh Khiem – Le Hong Phong intersection connects two major roads of the city. Nguyen Binh Khiem is part of the national highway No 5 through the local urban area, while Le Hong Phong is the main road to the Cat Bi international airport.
