Hanoi district reports outbreak of African swine fever

VOV.VN - Thuong Tin district in Hanoi has recorded an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF), according to Hanoi’s sub-department of animal husbandry and veterinary.

The outbreak was first detected at a pig farm belonging to a local resident in Phuong Que hamlet, Lien Phuong commune, Thuong Tin district. On March 13, the pigs on the farm were found sick and showed the symptoms of the ASF virus.

Upon noticing the symptoms, the incident was reported to local authorities on March 19 and samples were taken from the pig farm for further testing. The test results were positive for the ASF virus.

Immediately after discovering signs of the ASF virus local authorities took action. The entire flock was culled, disinfectants and lime powder were sprayed around contaminated zones, whilst four quarantine stations were set up at four main rounds in the commune.

In recent days, there have been a number of complicated developments regarding ASF in Hanoi. The epidemic has continued to spread throughout the communes of Quang Tien, Tien Duoc, Nam Son, Dong Son (Soc Son district), and Co Loa commune (Dong Anh district).

At least 118 pigs have been culled while veterinary workers have sprayed disinfectants in pig farms and other neighbouring areas.

Moreover quarantine stations have been set up to strictly monitor the transportation of pigs and other pork products.

The ASF has been reported in 41 households across 26 hamlets in 19 communes and wards under seven districts in the capital city so far.  A total of 945 pigs have been culled.
