A new species of geckos has been discovered in the Cat Tien National Park in south-central Vietnam by a group of German, Russian and Vietnamese scientists.

This species, scientifically known as Cyrtodactylus cattienensis Geissler, is distinguished from the remaining gecko species by its small size with a maximum SVL of 69 mm. It has 4–6 light bands on its trunk and 4–12 white bands on its tail. Male geckos have 6–8 precloacal pores in angular continuous series.

This discovery of the new gecko species in the park helps provide more scientific data for the recognition of the park as a world natural heritage site.
