Polish-built sailing ship for Vietnam Navy on sea trials

A full-rigged ship that the Vietnam Navy contracted to buy from Poland is currently undergoing trial run, according to the builder, Polish shipyard Marine Projects Ltd.

The training vessel is named after Le Quy Don, a famous Vietnamese poet, philosopher and encyclopedist in the 18th century. |

The ship is scheduled to arrive in Vietnam by the end of this month after a voyage around the Cape of Good Hope with a mixed Polish and Vietnamese crew onboard. |

This will provide the Vietnamese sailors an opportunity for training before arrival at Nha Trang where the Vietnam Naval Academy is located. |

The ship was designed by Poland’s Choreń Design & Consulting. The Vietnamese order placed in 2013 is being handled by Polish Defence Holding. |

It was first built on July 2, 2014 and launched on June 1 this year. The contract includes the training of the Vietnamese crew. |
