Vallet scholarships were awarded to 272 outstanding students from universities, colleges and high schools from the central provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Ha Tinh at a ceremony on August 27.
The Meeting Vietnam organisation presented the scholarships, worth roughly US$23,000, to the students.
Addressing the event, Professor Odon Vallet expressed his delight at efforts made by students from the three provinces during the 2014-2015 school year, pledging that more scholarships with higher values will be offered to needy students in the central region.
Each high school student received a scholarship worth US$270, while college and university students, post-graduates and research students received about US$410 each.
The Vallet Scholarship Fund has set aside more than US$1 million to award 2,250 outstanding Vietnamese students this year.
Since its establishment in 2001, the fund has awarded over US$5.5 million to more than 25,000 students.
The fund was established by French Professor Odon Vallet from France's Sorbonne University through the Meeting Vietnam organisation founded by Vietnamese-French Professor Tran Thanh Van.
