Thousands come out to walk for AO victims, disabled

VOV.VN - More than 5,000 Ho Chi Minh City residents came out on Saturday, August 5, to walk for Agent Orange victims and the disabled at Dam Sen Park, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

The charity drive, held annually on ‘Day for AO Victims’ aimed to call on city residents to come together and pitch in to improve living conditions for AO victims and the disabled.

Le Anh Mai, a member of the Red Cross in District 12, said annually she takes part in the walk to help those in need better integrate into society.

Doctor Le Quang Ninh, chair of HCM City Red Cross, said last year US$56,5200 was raised at the walk, which went to assist 2,843 families repair their homes and to buy wheelchairs and provide other medical care.

Over the past five years the charity drive collected US$591,000, which was used to assist an estimated 18,500 AO victims and disabled.
