Vietnam Navy launches new training vessel

VOV.VN - Senior Lieutenant General Mai Quang Phan, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) on March 10 attended the ceremonial ship launching for the Le Quy Don.

Vice Admiral Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the Vietnam People’s Army’s General Department of Politics also attended the naval flag hoisting ceremony at Nha Trang City in Khanh Hoa Province.

The vessel is a three-mast Barque, named after a Vietnamese 18th Century philosopher and poet. 

It was designed by the Choren Design & Consulting design bureau, while the construction works were executed by the Gdansk based Marine Projects Ltd. Sp. z o.o. shipyard.

The new ship has a displacement of 950 tons, its full length is 67 metres (together with the bowsprit), whereas the hull itself has dimensions of 58.3 x 10 x 4 metres. 

The ship’s engine room is fitted with a Caterpillar C32 engine that allows the vessel to reach speeds of 12 knots without using the sails.

The ship also features a modern training room equipped with a proper IT infrastructure.
