War-era bombs defused safely in Hung Yen

Two unexploded wartime bombs that have been recently discovered at the banks of the Red River running through the northern province of Hung Yen, have been safely disabled by disposal experts.

The bombs, with a diameter of 30 cm and a length of 80 cm, weigh more than 100 kg each. When spotted by farmers in the locality, they still sat unexploded.

According to bomb and mine experts, they are Cluster Bomb Units (CBU), which had been dropped by the US air force during the war in 1972.

Since 2012, dozens of unexploded bombs and mortar shells left over from the war have been discovered in Hung Yen.
