The Vietnamese Grandmaster, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, has ended his run at the 2011 World Chess Cup in the second round, losing to host player Peter Svidler in a tie-breaker match on September 2.
Son was narrowly defeated by the Russian Grandmaster in both games of the blitz event.
His teammate, Le Quang Liem, will face Lazaro Bruzon Batista from Cuba who also beat Spain’s Francisco Vallejo Pons in a tie-breaker.
Liem is one of three Asian players who have qualified for the third round of the tournament; the others are Gupta from India and Bu Xiangzhi from China.
