Heavy blizzard throws AFC U23 final into doubt

VOV.VN -The final game of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Championship is facing the risk of being postponed as temperatures in Changzhou plummet to between -3 to -5 Celsius.

Today’s heavy snowfall is threatening to postpone what will be a historic match.
Security surrounding the stadium has been tightenes in preparation for the final.

Snow and ice bring hazardous conditions to the roads and local traffic comes to a standstill.
On January 26 the weather seemed to be clearing and the AFC U23 Championship’s organising board gave the go ahead for the match to be played as scheduled.
However, the blizzard conditions returned on January 27.
The atmosphere around the stadium is quieter than usual, as local fans stay home after China were knocked out by Qatar in the group stages.
Reporters arrive to the stadium early to clear the security checks.

A TV broadcast van is covered in thick snow.

In spite of such cold weather, the Changzhou Olympic Sports Center is set to welcome about 5,000 Vietnamese football fans.
The organising board has asked football fans to keep their ticket stubs for reuse in case the match is postponed at the last minutes.
