Earlier, the team defeated Thailand after the penalty shootout in the semi-final of the U21 Thanh Nien (Youth) Newspaper Football Tournament and then beat Iran 2-1 in the final to claim the championship title.

Its head coach Nguyen Quoc Tuan said it will be a hard game for his team as Thailand is a strong rival. He added that the U21 Vietnam will continue to please their fans.
