The U23 Vietnamese team felt under pressure to win the third match of the 26th SEA Games first stage against East Timor after drawing with Myanmar on November 6.

The match reached a turning point in the 24th minute after East Timor’s striker Almeida had jostled with his elbow to Vietnamese defender Ngoc Anh and immediately got a red card.

The Vietnamese team pressed ahead, and in the 51st minute midfielder Trong Hoang broke the East Timor’s offside trap when he received a long pass from left defender Au Van Hoan to defeat the goalie.

12 minutes later, Hoang ran very fast along the right wing, leaving opponent fullbacks far behind and shot the ball into the far corner of the net to double the scoring.

The Vietnamese team shared the first place with Myanmar in Group B after winning 7 points from 3 matches and would more likely enter the semi-finals of the tournament.

Vietnam will play Brunei in the next match on November 12 while East Timor will face Laos one day later.
