Vietnam is ready for the APEC 2006 Week, said Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem, who is also chairman of the National APEC Committee, at a dress rehearsal of Gala Dinner in Hanoi on October 26.

“We have made good preparations for the event, from the working agenda to logistical support and security means,” said Mr Khiem at the function hosted by State President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Before the rehearsal, President Triet made a fact-finding tour of the National Conference Centre where the 14th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting will take place. He said he was pleased with the preparations made so far for the meeting. However, he asked logistics teams to finish the remaining work early so as to make the event successful.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Van Bang said they have made enough arrangements for leaders and participants.

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Public Security Colonel Dao Trong Si briefed participants on the department’s preparations for the event. He said the department’s staff have worked and trained hard to ensure security at the meeting. The department has 100 motorbikes ready to guide delegations from hotels in the city’s downtown to the conference centre.  It has also mobilised all protective equipment including fire engines and high security cars for the meeting.

“All the staff are determined to fulfil their tasks to leave good impressions on foreign delegates,” said Mr Si.

The same day, the Security Sub-committee reviewed its preparations for the meeting. Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Huong, who is also Deputy Minister of Public Security, asked the committee’s staff to improve communication systems to serve delegations effectively.
