Vietnam’s football squad trounced Singapore 9-1 in their opening match at the 2011 Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) Women's Championships in Laos on October 16.

Striker Nguyen Thi Hoa contributed four goals to the Vietnamese team under the leadership of coach Tran Van Phat, who said this was a convincing win.

The ongoing competition in Laos was divided into two groups: Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia and the Philippines in group A, and Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and Laos in group B.

The 10-day event aims to maintain the development of women’s football as it is not concluded in the upcoming 26th SEA Games in Indonesia.
