Myanmar’s Suu Kyi visits Singapore

Myanmar State Counselor Auang San Suu Kyi, also Minister of Foreign Affairs, arrived in Singapore on November 30 for a three-day official visit.

Speaking at a meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Suu Kyi lauded ties between the two countries, adding that Myanmar will be able to overcome challenges thanks to support of domestic and foreign partners, including Singapore.

Previously, at a dialogue with senior representatives of Singaporean enterprises, she declared that national reconciliation is important for Myanmar to attract investment.

She also noted that Myanmar’s new investment law will offer more incentives to foreign businesses.

Singapore stands as the third biggest trade partner after China and Thailand and the second largest investor in Myanmar.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was the first Asian leader to visit Myanmar since the country elected a new government in April. The Singaporean leader’s visit also marked 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
