RoK to open consulate in central Da Nang city

The Republic of Korea (RoK) plans to open a Consulate Office in the central city of Da Nang to boost tourism and investment.

The RoK Ambassador to Vietnam, Lee Hyuk, announced this information at a meeting with the city’s leaders during a recent working visit to Da Nang.

Korean tourists are the second largest segment of foreign tourist arrivals to Da Nang. More than 430,000 arrived last year, nearly 20 percent of total foreign travellers.

At the same time, Korean investors poured 244 million into 83 projects, the fourth biggest foreign investment in Da Nang.

Both Vietnamese and Korean budget airlines have operated daily flights between Korean cities and Da Nang since 2014.

T’way Air, a low-cost airline based in Seoul, has launched a new direct flight connecting Da Nang and Daegu. This is the company’s third route between the two countries and is in addition to direct flights from Da Nang to Pusan and Muan.

According to the city’s tourism department, there are 12 flights from the RoK to Da Nang every week, carrying an average of 1,500 passengers.
